For a catheter to be used safely and effectively, the doctor must be in a position to tell its precise location. Usually, this is done using X-ray machines. X- rays do not have short-term effects. As technology advanced, X-ray machines started being replaced by MRI Machines. MRI poses fewer threats to an individual’s health. The only challenge with the MRI machines is their immobility.
With this challenges in mind, Dr Saad Saad came up with an appliance that eliminated the need for any type of scan to pinpoint the catheters in patients’ bodies. He came up with a catheter that has a location identification mechanism. The catheter uses electromagnetic signals to indicate its location. An external gadget is then used to detect the exact position of the body from which the electromagnetic signals are generated. His invention works with the same principles as a metal detector. This improvement has eliminated the use of harmful and non- portable scanning devices.
With his second innovation, Dr Saad was aiming at upgrading the application of endoscopes. Endoscopes are apparatus used to perform medical examinations of tracks such as the windpipe or colon. They can as well be used for organs such as the stomach. The most significant challenge with this appliances is that they are affected by the body fluids, which unfortunately are present everywhere.
