George Soros Humanitarian
George Soros is a humanitarian and philanthropist active in American society today. He has an extensive history of advocating for progressive causes and using his resources to stand up for his beliefs and help the marginalized. Soros is a leader in American business and politics whose principles stand ever more staunchly in contrast to the contemporary political climate.
Soros is an immigrant from Hungary who lived through occupations by both the Nazis and the Soviets. Having fled Hungary shortly after the end of World War II, he eventually came to America where he built a name for himself through his financial acumen and business prowess. He is a successful hedge fund manager who took the opportunities given to him by America and built a prosperous life. These opportunities are why George Soros advocates for the responsibility of the wealthy and has donated considerably to the Democratic Party. Notably, in 2004 he criticized the Bush administration and made it his mission to use his resources to oppose Republican political gains.
In addition to his support for the Democratic Party, Soros also has a long history of philanthropy. His non-profit, Open Society Foundations, has reached globally to help those in the developing world as well as in America. Recently, Soros has pledged a considerable sum of money to Open Society Foundations earmarked specifically for aiding refugees. Soros’ experiences with totalitarian regimes and his identity as a global citizen have shaped his outlook on the role of the wealthy and of governments to the hardworking poor. Soros has a simple belief: that allowed him to build a successful career in finance and become a leader in American society, should be extended to other refugees. This is why Soros showed a surge of support for the Democratic Party after having scaled back his political activities in recent years. The anti-immigrant rhetoric has ignited his political advocacy.
