Herbalife Nutrition has joined forces with the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) to give people a chance to look as good as they feel. Starting with the 2018 school year, the organization is known for making the world healthier through improved nutrition and the fashion institute recognized throughout the world will come together to create a line of activewear that will be available to the independent distributors of Herbalife products. The design challenge has been a part of the FIDM program since the early 1990s, but this marks the first participation by Herbalife.
Divided into groups, FIDM students will be given the task of developing, producing and selling attire that “fits” into an active and healthy lifestyle. In addition to group efforts, the work will be carried out by individual students. The designers will then have to demonstrate how they can successfully market their products. Selected by members of the FIDM faculty and staff, more than 15 students will participate in the competition, which is part of a special program in the general field of international manufacturing and product development. Students will be given the opportunity to study consumer markets throughout the world and travel to the fashion-leading countries of France and Italy. They will also meet with representatives from Herbalife, with some of that interaction taking place during the company’s annual meeting in Texas.
Known for its development and marketing of nutritional supplements and related health products, Herbalife Nutrition was founded in 1980 by Mark Hughes. In only a few years, it had expanded from a small operation to what the business magazine Inc. described as the fastest-growing private business in the United States. The company would subsequently gain recognition in Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and Israel, and later in dozens of other countries. It is headquartered in Los Angeles. In 2017, the company had some 8,000 employees and revenues of more than $4 billion. Its mission is to satisfy the health needs of the world’s population while, at the same time, helping to combat the issues of obesity and poor nutrition. The company is also known for its sponsorship of athletes, teams and sporting events in the United States and elsewhere.
